Axe the Gardening Tax - sign the petition

Wheelbarrow with garden waste

Both Watford Borough and Three Rivers District Councils have imposed a new charge called the 'garden waste collection service' on local residents at £45 per year.

Collecting our rubbish should be a core service of the Council. This is just a stealth tax.

We oppose this new tax imposed on local residents who need any kind of gardening waste removed such as grass cuttings or fallen leaves.

It is imposed no matter what size garden you have and falls disproportionately on hard working families with modest incomes and small gardens.

Local reports suggest it raises almost £300,000 a year from local residents on top of all the money we pay in Council Tax.

We believe the Council budget should focus on delivering core services within the Council Tax and stop looking for ways to raise more money to waste on vanity projects and photo-opportunities.

We say: let's axe the gardening tax.

Sign the petition to insist that the gardening tax be abolished.

NB This petition will be collecting signatures until 30 September 2021. It will be submitted to the Watford Borough and Three Rivers District Councils (as appropriate) by 31 October. Data will be retained until the 'garden waste collection service' charge is cancelled.
