Nascot residents tell us they feel let down by a council that has failed to control development, with the consequence that the character of the ward has been damaged. Too often, they say, new homes have been given the go ahead apparently without thought as to how they affect Nascot’s public facilities, roads and unique character. We agree.
Nascot has many assets that need protecting. Its green public spaces, tree lined streets and village atmosphere make it a fantastic place to live in. However, the council seems not to care that its actions are putting it all at risk. Already, what were safe quiet roads are racetracks; developments are slotted into gardens and schools are overwhelmed. We need a new approach which plans for Nascot’s future with sustainable, appropriate modernisation.
Nascot needs a fresh voice on these issues, which is unlikely from another Lib Dem councillor.
Penny says: Nascot is a community and needs a planning policy which does not threaten to damage its character.
We should not build more homes without making sure we have the local facilities, like doctors’ surgeries, schools and parking, to match.
Nascot’s roads are already grossly overcrowded. New developments need to have sensible access and not create more junctions and potential accident spots.
Nascot is a green and beautiful area. We need to protect our environment by putting tighter controls on back garden development.
