Watford Conservatives have selected Abdul Laskar (right) as their candidate for the Mayoral Election on Thursday 07 May. A retired businessman, community leader, and lifelong Watford resident, Abdul brings decades of experience in both business and public service to the campaign.
Deep Roots in Watford
Abdul has lived in Watford for over 50 years. His father served as a doctor at Watford General and Leavesden Hospitals, and Abdul himself is the founder and current Chairman of the West Herts Community Forum (WHCF). His family’s connection to the town runs deep and so does his commitment to its future.
A Track Record of Service
Abdul’s charity work speaks for itself. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked alongside former Conservative MP Dean Russell and local businessmen to distribute over 5,000 meals to vulnerable residents. Internationally, he has provided humanitarian support to refugees on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border and opened a surgery clinic in Dhaka serving the poor and needy, work that earned him recognition from the British Embassy.
A Vision for Watford
As a successful retired businessman, Abdul understands what it takes to deliver results. His priorities for Watford include:
Promoting job growth by backing local businesses;
Implementing responsible low-rise housing development that includes parking and local amenities;
Cutting Council Tax and other charges to reduce the cost of living by driving efficiency at Town Hall services and emphasising core services.
He believes Watford deserves better leadership and he intends to provide it.
