From speaking to people on the doorstep and from seeing your responses to our questionnaire, I see that for many of you, crime and anti-social behaviour are key concerns in Leggatts.
I have had over 10 years’ experience in local government and my promise to you is to use my experience in Environmental Protection, Trading Standards, and Licensing to help and improve the lot of residents. I am increasingly concerned about the night time economy, especially in the centre of town, with its problems associated with clubs, bars, pubs and late night take-away venues.
At present, I believe there has been too little action taken against licensed premises that flout the law. Watford Council should be more proactive in this respect and I was surprised to learn that there have been very few prosecutions or reviews since the new Licensing Act came into force in 2005.
If elected in May, I will be determined to deal with these issues and if necessary I would be happy to seek reviews of licensed premises whenever the situation merits this. I will work with police and other agencies to tackle a whole range of issues involving crime and anti-social behaviour.
Our Survey Said...
Thank you to those who responded to our recent survey. We were delighted by the response and Cllr Steve Johnson and I are now looking into the issues raised. We have found that the key concerns of residents include anti-social behaviour, Town Hall spending and street cleaning.
We really appreciate it when people get in touch. If you would like to discuss an issue with us or report a problem then please do. Our contact details are on the back of this newsletter. Thank you.
