Richard Harrington MP and your local Conservatives are fighting to keep the Met Line Station open on Cassiobury Park Avenue.
Late last year the Government finally approved the plans to link the Metropolitan Line to Watford Junction. The plans involve the building of two new stations, Ascot Road and Watford Hospital, and will provide a boost to Watford’s economy and ensure that our town remains an attractive base for employers. Unfortunately, to redirect trains to Watford Junction the current plans include closing the Met Station.
Whats Next for the Met
- Richard Harrington is meeting Secretary of State, Justine Greening MP, to discuss the options for altering the plans.
- Richard is also meeting with TfL to argue the benefits of keeping the station open to “relieve pressure” on the line and make the service more flexible.
- Linda will be working with residents to publicise the potential closure of the Met and to discuss what options would best suit the residents of Park. Watch this space.
Watford’s MP, Richard Harrington, and the Conservative team are working to find a way to continue with the link without closing the crucial station on Cassiobury Park Avenue. Even before the plans were approved last December, Richard had discussed with the Department for Transport and TfL the feasibility of keeping the station as a termination stop or establishing a shuttle service to the Croxley Station. Now Richard is continuing with these discussions to find a compromise.
Richard says, “The Croxley Rail Link is a great opportunity for Watford and I’m glad that the Department for Transport has approved the funding. The next step is to make sure the existing station is not closed. I am continuing to meet with the Government, TfL and Watford Council to find a solution.”
Local campaigner, Linda Topping, says, “Thank you to the many residents who have been in touch about the closure of the Met Station. I share your fears. The station is a crucial asset, not just to residents of Park Ward but to the town. Those making the decision about closing the Met are unlikely to be affected by its demise so we will work tirelessly and do anything in our power to save it.”
