Richard Harrington MP has today welcomed the recommendations made in the Government commissioned review into the UK Film Industry.
In his Westminster Hall Debate in November 2010, Mr Harrington called on the Government to look at how they can create stronger investment in the UK Film Industry from within the UK, and is delighted to see Lord Smith setting out recommendations to achieve this.
With Leavesden Studios, the home of the Harry Potter franchise, in his constituency, Richard Harrington has been a supporter of the British Film Industry, recognising the positive impact the industry can have on local and national economies. In previous speeches he has highlighted how foreign investors have capitalised on incentives available when investing in the UK and has called for similar incentives to be made available to British investors.
On today’s announcements Richard said:
"I strongly welcome the recommendations made by Lord Smith and I am pleased that the Government has taken seriously, my calls to support the British Film Industry within the UK. This is a good example of how this Government listens carefully to the causes of backbench MPs such as myself.
"Leavesden studios in my constituency are a good example of how to attract and retain investment in the British Film Industry and I am pleased the Government have looked closely at how to support this important and growing industry.
"I look forward to working with my colleagues in Government to deliver the recommendations of this report, to keep building on the success of the British Film Industry and the growth and jobs they create across the UK."
