Frances Button attended the excellent Neighbourhood Watch meeting in the Community Hall on 15th February, organised and addressed by Sue Thompson and PC Dan Jones.
Responding to concerns about the new night-time street lighting policy Frances Button said there had been extensive discussions with the Police before the policy was introduced and according to the Chief Constable (not at the meeting) “Many types of crime do not relate in any way to street lighting, for example, alcohol-fuelled disorder, domestic abuse, fraud, drug offences, shop lifting. Many crimes are actually more prevalent during daytime hours – for example, household burglary. We know that burglars generally want to avoid confrontation so will target homes that are empty during the daytime when occupants are away or at work.”
