Andrew and his fellow councillors have been inundated with complaints from parents whose children have been allocated schools which are not of their choosing, even when they live within a few hundred yards from their first choice, eg, Nascot Wood School.
Parents are faced with their youngsters being placed in schools in another Ward! Equally, children from other areas are gaining places at Nascot Wood, despite being separated by the rail line. This is because Herts County Council use the ‘radial’ straight-line rule of measuring the distance from homes to the schools direct, ignoring the reality that one either has to travel via St Albans Road or Ridge Lane to get there - in effect, doubling the distances. Local school space is at a premium and Nascot schools cannot be made any bigger.
Andrew says “I think it is wrong that our local children are deprived of their logical choice and to this end, I have set up a Petition to Herts County Council. I urge residents to sign the petition to help us remedy this nonsensical policy”.
